Overview

A study of 120 patients with metastatic melanoma compared the effectiveness of a combination of BCNU and vincristine to two different DTIC regimens. The response rate was similar for all three treatments (16%, 24%, and 29%, respectively). Median response durations were 60 days for BCNU+vincristine, 90 days for daily DTIC, and 100 days for 8-hour DTIC. Median survival was longer for patients who responded to treatment (6.5-8.5 months) compared to those who did not respond (3.3-3.5 months). No patients who failed to respond to their initial treatment regimen responded to a switch to the alternative regimen.
