Overview

Istradefylline, an adenosine A(2A) receptor antagonist, was found to be well tolerated and significantly reduced OFF time in patients with Parkinson's disease who experienced motor fluctuations when used as an adjunct to levodopa. In a 12-week study of 231 participants, those receiving istradefylline 20 mg daily experienced a 4.6% reduction in daily OFF time compared to placebo. However, there was no significant difference in ON time with troublesome dyskinesia.
