Overview

A new analytical procedure for the simultaneous determination of major alkaloids in Ephedra sinica and Citrus aurantium var. amara was developed and validated. The method is sensitive, selective, accurate, repeatable, and precise, allowing for unambiguous identification of Ephedra-alkaloids in plant material and commercial products. Dominant alkaloids were (-)-ephedrine (0.9-1.6%) and/or (+/-)-synephrine (0.1-3.0%).
