Overview

If a woman's first attempt at in vitro fertilization (IVF) with a fresh embryo is unsuccessful, frozen embryos can be used, or in some cases, donated eggs. Before transferring embryos or donated eggs, the lining of the uterus is prepared using estrogen and progesterone. To prevent ovulation, medications that suppress the ovaries (GnRH agonists) are often used.
