Overview

This study investigated the rewarding properties of hydrocodone and morphine in rats using the conditioned place preference paradigm (CPP). Both drugs produced a CPP at the 5 mg/kg dose, suggesting that hydrocodone possesses similar rewarding properties as morphine. Both drugs also reduced phosphorylation levels of ERK and CREB proteins in the nucleus accumbens, indicating that both drugs exert their effects through similar signal transduction pathways involved in drug reward.
