Overview

Baifupian, a traditional Chinese medicine, has both benefits and risks. It is supposed to be used only in patients with specific TCM patterns, which can be mimicked in rats using hydrocortisone. Our study found that Baifupian caused toxicity in healthy rats, but this toxicity was significantly reduced in hydrocortisone-treated rats. This difference is likely related to metabolic changes, highlighting the importance of considering individual health conditions when using potentially toxic herbal remedies.
