Ultrasonography (US) is a valuable alternative to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis of common causes of non-specific chronic low back pain (LBP). US can be used to evaluate spinal canal diameter, paraspinal and transabdominal muscles, sacroiliac joint laxity, and spondylolisthesis. Recent studies have focused on the role of transabdominal muscles in core stability and LBP, suggesting that focusing on transabdominal muscle thickness may be a promising future approach.
