Stability of 26 Sedative Hypnotics in Six Toxicological Matrices at Different Storage Conditions.

Overview

This study investigated the stability of 26 drugs (23 benzodiazepines and 3 sedative hypnotics) in six different matrices (blood, urine, brain, liver, and stomach contents) over an 8-month period. The drugs were stored in either a refrigerator (4°C) or a freezer (-20°C). The results showed that the concentrations of most drugs decreased over time, regardless of the storage conditions. Urine was the most stable matrix, while postmortem blood was the least stable. Zopiclone and phenazepam were the least stable drugs, with zopiclone completely disappearing in both antemortem and postmortem blood.
