Overview

This study compared the effectiveness of three cataract surgery methods: (A) intracapsular extraction with contact lens, (B) intracapsular extraction with an iris-supported lens, and (C) extracapsular extraction with an iridocapsular lens. More patients in groups A and C achieved better vision compared to group B. Group B also had more complications. Both groups with lens implants experienced more corneal cell loss than the group without implants, but the cell loss in the group without implants was not significantly different from group B in the first year.
