Overview

This study investigates the impact of comorbid diseases on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) outcomes. It examined a cohort of 1035 RA patients and found that the prevalence of thyroid diseases, diabetes mellitus, primary hyperparathyroidism, vitamin B12 deficiency, and other autoimmune diseases was 11.8%, 10.4%, 2.8%, 5.8%, and 1.6%, respectively. Patients with thyroid diseases and other autoimmune diseases demonstrated significantly poorer initial responses to RA treatment compared to those with isolated RA. The study also found that deterioration in RA treatment response was associated with the presence of thyroid diseases and other autoimmune diseases. These findings suggest that periodic assessments of comorbidities should be considered in RA patients to optimize treatment outcomes.
