Overview

Tinidazole, a second-generation nitroimidazole, showed a significant reduction in food intake in chinchillas at high single doses (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg). However, repeated administration of lower doses (20 mg/kg q12h) had no significant effect. Tinidazole may be a more suitable drug for treating Giardia and anaerobic bacterial infections in chinchillas compared to metronidazole.
