Overview

Teriflunomide, an inhibitor of pyrimidine synthesis, is a first-line treatment for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. This case report describes the occurrence of liver injury, with a 33.7-fold increase in the upper limit of normality of the liver enzyme alanine aminotransferase during treatment with teriflunomide 14 mg. Drug-induced liver damage is a relevant problem in clinical practice and a frequent cause of treatment discontinuation.
