Overview

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a potentially fatal inflammatory syndrome. There is evidence that it can be triggered by SARS-CoV-2 infection. A recent case report showed that a living patient who recovered from COVID-19 was diagnosed with sHLH using a trephine biopsy. The trephine biopsy revealed signs of histiocytosis, hemophagocytosis, and persistent leukocytosis. The diagnostic value of trephine biopsy in post-COVID-19 patients is highlighted in this case.
