Overview

Chagas disease is a parasitic infection that can lead to heart and other organ damage. Benznidazole and nifurtimox are the current treatments for Chagas disease, but they can cause side effects that may affect patient adherence. Isotretinoin has been identified as a potential alternative therapy for Chagas disease. In this study, a murine model of chronic Chagas disease was treated with different oral administrations of isotretinoin. The results showed that isotretinoin was effective in reducing blood parasitemia and improving myocardial function.
