Original Abstract of the Article :
Lavender administration in humans has been shown to promote calmness without the side effects often observed with benzodiazepines. Studies in both humans and rodents have found that ingestion of oral lavender capsules resulted in significantly decreased anxiety. Additionally, mice developed an anti-...See full text at original site

Lavender Therapy: A Potential Solution for Conflict-Instigating Behaviors in Chimpanzees
This research explores the use of lavender therapy as a potential intervention for reducing conflict-instigating behaviors in chimpanzees. The authors administered daily oral lavender capsules to six chimpanzees who exhibited such behaviors, hoping to further decrease the already low levels of wounding within their social groups. They compared the total number of wounds in these groups before and during lavender treatment.
While the overall wounding was surprisingly higher during the lavender treatment period, the percentage of wounds requiring treatment significantly decreased. This suggests that lavender therapy may have a positive impact on wound severity, even if it doesn't necessarily reduce the overall frequency of wounds.
Lavender's Potential Role in Conflict Resolution
The study suggests that lavender therapy may have a calming effect on chimpanzees, potentially reducing the severity of wounds despite not completely eliminating conflict-instigating behaviors.
Understanding Chimpanzee Behavior
Chimpanzees are complex social animals with intricate social dynamics. Understanding their behaviors and finding ways to promote peaceful coexistence is essential for their well-being.
Dr. Camel's Conclusion
This study provides intriguing insights into the potential of lavender therapy for managing conflict-instigating behaviors in chimpanzees. It demonstrates that even in the most complex social environments, there may be natural solutions to promote harmony. Just as a camel can find respite in the shade of a desert oasis, chimpanzees might find solace in the calming properties of lavender.
