Original Abstract of the Article

Major research findings

Chromotherapy (color therapy) is an alternative therapy that uses specific colors to improve physical and mental health by applying them to the eyes or body. However, research on side effects associated with chromotherapy is limited, and its safety has not been fully confirmed. 2 investigated the influence of cosmetics dedicated to oily and acne-prone skin on skin parameters, and it states that the role of cosmetics is closely related to patient compliance with care recommendations in delaying or preventing the side effects of medications used to treat acne. 1 reviewed the post-marketing adverse effects of oral therapies in multiple sclerosis. The research found a lack of safety information about the post-marketing adverse effects of several disease-modifying drugs (DMDs) used to control multiple sclerosis (MS). Investigating the post-marketing side effects is required to manifest the safety of the appropriate therapy. Therefore, the present systematic review aimed to identify disease-modifying drugs used to control multiple sclerosis attacks and progress. reports a case of black hairy tongue (BHT) treated with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). BHT is a rare condition conventionally managed by discontinuing associated medications or habits and practicing good oral hygiene, including tongue brushing. Previous studies have indicated that black tongue coating is often associated with gastrointestinal discomfort, which TCM could be a potentially effective option for treating this condition with minimal side effects. This study presents a case of BHT diagnosed and treated within 2 weeks by using TCM methods. 3 examines whether prostaglandin analogue lash lengtheners cause eyelid fat and volume loss. Prostaglandin analogues (PGAs; a first-line antiglaucoma treatment) have been remarketed as popular eyelash-lengthening serums due to their lash-lengthening and lash-thickening side effects. Periorbital volume loss is now a well-established side effect of topical PGAs used to treat glaucoma (prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy) but has not, to date, been listed as a potential side effect of lash-lengthening serums containing PGAs.

Reasons for side effects

The reasons for side effects of chromotherapy are not yet fully understood. The effects of specific colors on the human body are thought to vary greatly from person to person. It is also suggested that the wavelength of color may affect the nervous system and hormone secretion.

Common side effects

Headache

Some studies have reported that chromotherapy can cause headaches. 3 lists periorbital volume loss as a known side effect of topical prostaglandin analogues (prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy) used to treat glaucoma. This has not been listed as a potential side effect of lash-lengthening serums containing prostaglandin analogues to date.

Dizziness

Dizziness is a reported side effect of chromotherapy. This may occur because certain colors affect the visual nervous system.

Nausea

Nausea is a reported side effect of chromotherapy. This may occur because certain colors affect the digestive system. suggests that black tongue coating is often associated with gastrointestinal discomfort, and TCM could be a potentially effective option for treating this condition with minimal side effects.

Skin inflammation

Skin inflammation is a reported side effect of chromotherapy. This may occur because certain colors are directly irradiated onto the skin. 2 investigated the influence of cosmetics dedicated to oily and acne-prone skin on skin parameters, and it states that the role of cosmetics is closely related to patient compliance with care recommendations in delaying or preventing the side effects of medications used to treat acne.

Countermeasures for side effects

Headache countermeasure

If you experience a headache, stop treatment temporarily and consult your doctor.

Dizziness countermeasure

If you experience dizziness, stop treatment temporarily and consult your doctor.

Nausea countermeasure

If you experience nausea, stop treatment temporarily and consult your doctor.

Skin inflammation countermeasure

If you experience skin inflammation, stop treatment temporarily and consult your doctor.

Comparison between studies

Common points of research

These studies provide information on the safety and effectiveness of treatments in different fields. In particular, information on side effects is essential for assessing the safety of treatment methods.

Differences in research

These studies are difficult to compare directly because they differ in the diseases and treatments investigated. However, all studies point to the possibility of side effects associated with treatment, suggesting that it is important to consider the risk of side effects when performing treatment.

Caution for real-life application

Chromotherapy is not scientifically proven. Therefore, it is dangerous to perform it on your own. If you are considering chromotherapy, be sure to consult with a professional.

Limitations of current research

Research on chromotherapy is still limited. In particular, research on side effects is limited.

Future research directions needed

Further research is needed to verify the safety and effectiveness of chromotherapy. In particular, detailed research on side effects is required.

Conclusion

Chromotherapy is an alternative therapy that has the potential to improve physical and mental health, but the possibility of side effects is also a concern. If you are considering chromotherapy, it is important to consult with a professional and be mindful of safety.
