Major Research Findings

Lindane has been used for many years to treat scabies and lice. However, recent studies have raised concerns about the safety of lindane. Several studies have shown that lindane may be neurotoxic, and caution should be exercised, especially in young children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. 5 , 6 , 7 , 4 , 9

Lindane, in addition to its insecticidal effect, has been reported to show anti-inflammatory and wound healing effects. 13 However, lindane use carries risks, so it is important to use it appropriately under the guidance of a physician.

Reasons for Side Effects

The side effects of lindane are thought to be mainly due to its effects on the nervous system. Lindane can affect the activity of nerve cells and inhibit neurotransmission. Lindane can also be easily absorbed through the skin and may accumulate in the body. 5 , 6 , 7 , 4 , 9
