Main Research Findings

Mepolizumab is a medication used to treat severe asthma. It works by blocking a protein in the body that causes inflammation. 15 Research shows that mepolizumab can effectively reduce asthma exacerbations and help patients achieve asthma control. 15 12 20 It has also been shown to be effective in treating chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. 5 In children with severe asthma, mepolizumab is a safe and effective treatment option. 7 Studies have shown that mepolizumab can reduce the need for corticosteroids, improve lung function, and improve quality of life in patients with severe asthma. 14 16 18 A patient case study demonstrated that benralizumab was effective in treating severe eosinophilic asthma patients who were refractory to omalizumab and mepolizumab treatment. 8 While the long-term safety and efficacy of mepolizumab are still being studied, preliminary results are encouraging. 19 18 The studies also indicate that mepolizumab is a good alternative to chronic oral corticosteroid therapy. 17 19 Furthermore, mepolizumab can be effectively self-administered using a prefilled autoinjector. 14

The 90% confidence intervals for maximum plasma concentration, AUC<sub>0-t</sub>, and AUC<sub>0-&#8734;</sub> treatment ratios (liquid prefilled syringe or autoinjector vs lyophilized formulation) were within conventional bioequivalence bounds (0.80-1.25), demonstrating statistical PK comparability.
