Original Abstract of the Article

Main Research Findings

Omalizumab, a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody to IgE, is recommended as a new treatment option for severe persistent allergic asthma. 2 . This study aims to assess the effects of omalizumab treatment on quality of life and its side effects in severe persistent asthma patients. Omalizumab is recommended as a third-line treatment in the treatment of chronic spontaneous urticaria. 1 . During omalizumab use, which has high efficacy and safety, the side effects observed are usually moderate and temporary. Here we discuss the triggering of atrial fibrillation following omalizumab injection.

Reasons for Side Effects

Omalizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody to immunoglobulin E (IgE). IgE is an antibody involved in allergic reactions. Omalizumab binds to IgE and inhibits allergic reactions. 2 . However, like all medications, omalizumab can cause side effects. Side effects of omalizumab are thought to be caused by suppression of the immune system due to inhibition of IgE. 1

Common Side Effects

Injection Site Reactions

A common side effect of omalizumab is injection site reactions. This includes redness, swelling, pain, and itching. 2

Headache

A common side effect of omalizumab is headache. 2

Fatigue

A common side effect of omalizumab is fatigue. 2

Joint Pain

A common side effect of omalizumab is joint pain. 2

Rash

A common side effect of omalizumab is rash. 2

Allergic Reactions

Omalizumab can cause allergic reactions. This includes difficulty breathing, facial swelling, hives, and itching. 2

Side Effects Management

Injection Site Reactions

If you experience injection site reactions, applying a cold compress or taking antihistamines may help alleviate them. 2

Headache

If you experience a headache, taking painkillers may help alleviate it. 2

Fatigue

If you experience fatigue, resting may help alleviate it. 2

Joint Pain

If you experience joint pain, taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may help alleviate it. 2

Rash

If you experience a rash, taking antihistamines may help alleviate it. 2

Allergic Reactions

If you experience an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention. 2

Comparison of Studies

Similarities in Studies

Both studies indicate that omalizumab is effective in treating severe persistent asthma and chronic spontaneous urticaria.

Differences in Studies

The first study aims to assess the therapeutic effects and side effects of omalizumab. 2 . The second study reports a case of atrial fibrillation induced after omalizumab administration. 1

Considerations for Real-World Application

While omalizumab is an effective treatment for severe persistent asthma and chronic spontaneous urticaria, it is important to remember that there is a risk of side effects. Before taking omalizumab, consult with your doctor to determine if it is the right treatment for your condition.

Limitations of Current Research

Research on the side effects of omalizumab is still limited. Therefore, further research is needed on the long-term effects and side effects of omalizumab.

Future Research Directions

More research is needed on the side effects of omalizumab. In particular, further research is needed on the long-term effects and side effects of omalizumab.

Conclusion

Omalizumab is an effective treatment for severe persistent asthma and chronic spontaneous urticaria. However, it is important to remember that there is a risk of side effects. Before taking omalizumab, consult with your doctor to determine if it is the right treatment for your condition.
