Major research findings

Treatments for sinusitis include nasal irrigation, surgery, medications and more. This research evaluated the efficacy and safety of these treatment methods to determine which treatments are effective in improving sinusitis symptoms.

Nasal irrigation is expected to improve symptoms by reducing inflammation in the sinuses and draining secretions. 10 found that nasal irrigation alone is effective in preventing surgery for 1 year in 58% of patients, but surgery was found to be more effective than nasal irrigation alone for the treatment of sinusitis. However, the study also found that nasal irrigation combined with surgery was more effective than nasal irrigation alone at the end point, though only for loss of smell and purulent rhinitis. 10

Surgery aims to remove inflammation and tumors in the nasal cavity, and to improve ventilation. 10 shows that combining nasal irrigation with surgery is effective for improving loss of smell and purulent rhinitis. However, surgery carries risks such as nosebleeds and infections, so it needs to be carefully considered.

The usefulness of irrigation of the maxillary sinus in children with maxillary sinusitis on the basis of the Water's X-ray.

A complex homeopathic medication, Sinfrontal, was found to be safe and effective in treating acute maxillary sinusitis (AMS). In a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, Sinfrontal significantly reduced sinusitis severity score compared to placebo.
