Upadacitinib is an oral Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor used to treat various inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ulcerative colitis, ankylosing spondylitis, and atopic dermatitis. Upadacitinib has been shown to be effective for these diseases in numerous clinical trials. 5 4 7 6 3 10 However, like other JAK inhibitors, upadacitinib has the potential for side effects. 5 4 2

Upadacitinib works by selectively inhibiting JAK1, which plays a critical role in the immune system's inflammatory response.
