Overview

This study assessed the effects of the enterokinetic drug prucalopride on colonic contractile motility patterns in fasted dogs. Prucalopride, given intravenously or orally, altered colonic motility in a dose-dependent fashion, stimulating high-amplitude clustered contractions in the proximal colon and inhibiting contractile activity in the distal colon. The effects of prucalopride were mediated by 5-HT4 receptors.
