Overview

Midazolam, a commonly used drug to enhance tolerance to transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), can cause adverse effects in a significant proportion (6%) of patients with cardiac conditions. These effects, including aggressiveness, euphoria, depression, and intense hiccups, can be effectively reversed by administering the benzodiazepine antagonist flumazenil.
