Overview

Ciclesonide, an intranasal corticosteroid in development for allergic rhinitis, was assessed for safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics. Healthy volunteers and individuals with seasonal allergic rhinitis received intranasal ciclesonide or placebo for 14 days. Despite using a sensitive assay, serum levels of ciclesonide and its active metabolite remained below the limits of quantification. Ciclesonide was well-tolerated and did not affect cortisol levels. These results support continued clinical development of ciclesonide nasal spray.
