Overview

Chronic bone and soft tissue infections are becoming more common due to high-energy injuries. This study describes a new technique for local antibiotic therapy using polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) capsules filled with Tazocin. The capsules were implanted in rabbits with experimentally induced osteomyelitis. Eight weeks after implantation, 7 rabbits achieved complete healing, while 3 showed signs of repair. Control animals showed no improvement. These findings suggest that Tazocin-filled PMMA capsules may be an effective treatment for chronic bone infections.
