Overview

Heart and blood vessel diseases are major causes of death and disability in older adults. Stem cells, which have the ability to develop into different types of cells, are used to treat many conditions. While stem cells have been used to treat blood cancers and other diseases for many years, research is now exploring the use of stem cells to treat heart attacks and strokes in early clinical trials.
