Overview

Nitroglycerin (10 mg/kg bodyweight, s.c.) administration was found to activate neurons of the rat caudal trigeminal nucleus, decrease the area covered by calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-immunoreactive fibers and increase the number of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS)- and the calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II alpha (CamKIIalpha)-immunopositive neurons. Probenecid pretreatment was found to mitigate these changes.
