Author: BajajH C, KevadiyaB D, PatelParvati B, PatelT K, RajkumarShalini, TripathiC B
Original Abstract of the Article :
The research work reported in this paper is extension of our previous findings related to intercalation of procainamide hydrochloride, an antiarrythmia drug in interlayer gallery of Na(+)-clay (montmorillonite). The microcomposite particles prepared from procainamide-montmorillonite hybrid and poly ...See full text at original site

Montmorillonite Poly-L-Lactide Microcomposites for Controlled Drug Delivery
The development of controlled drug delivery systems is a critical area of research, aiming to improve the efficacy and safety of medications by controlling the release of the active ingredient. This study investigates the potential of montmorillonite poly-L-lactide microcomposites for controlled delivery of procainamide, an antiarrhythmia drug. The researchers prepared these microcomposites by incorporating procainamide into the interlayer gallery of montmorillonite clay and then encapsulating the hybrid material in poly-L-lactide. They found that these microcomposites exhibited a controlled release profile in simulated intestinal fluid, with sustained release up to 72 hours and significantly reduced release in gastric environment. In vivo studies in rats demonstrated therapeutic plasma and tissue drug levels, with reduced drug toxicity compared to free procainamide. This study highlights the potential of montmorillonite poly-L-lactide microcomposites for controlled drug delivery, offering a promising platform for improving therapeutic efficacy and reducing adverse effects.Montmorillonite Microcomposites: A Novel Approach to Drug Delivery
This research highlights the potential of montmorillonite poly-L-lactide microcomposites as a novel approach to controlled drug delivery. The sustained release profile and reduced toxicity observed in the study suggest that these microcomposites may offer significant advantages over conventional drug delivery systems. The researchers' discovery of the radio-stabilising effect of clonazepam on the polymeric matrix is particularly noteworthy, suggesting that the drug itself may contribute to the microspheres' stability. This discovery opens up new avenues for exploring drug-polymer interactions and designing even more robust drug delivery systems. The Desert of Drug Delivery: Seeking Sustainable Solutions
As a camel traversing the vast and unforgiving desert, I've learned the importance of finding sustainable sources of water and nutrients. Similarly, drug delivery systems must be designed to provide sustained therapeutic effects while minimizing potential risks. This research showcases the potential of montmorillonite poly-L-lactide microcomposites as a sustainable solution for controlled drug delivery, offering a promising path toward improved therapeutic outcomes and reduced adverse effects.Dr. Camel's Conclusion
