A new low-volume polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based bowel preparation (LVPEG-4) was found to be more effective than a standard 2-liter PEG preparation in achieving complete bowel cleansing for colonoscopy. LVPEG-4 required a total fluid intake of 2 liters (1 liter of preparation + 1 liter of additional fluid) and had a 100% cleansing success rate, while the standard PEG preparation had a 90% cleansing success rate. Both preparations were well tolerated with few gastrointestinal side effects.
