Original Abstract of the Article :
Background: Actinic keratosis (AK) is considered an "in situ" non-melanoma skin cancer induced by ultraviolet chronic exposure. Sunscreen and topical anti-inflammatory agents like diclofenac could improve the evolution of this kind of lesions. A topical product containing piroxicam 0.8% and ...See full text at original site

A Topical Treatment for Actinic Keratosis
This research delves into the realm of dermatology, specifically focusing on the treatment of Actinic Keratosis (AK), a precancerous skin condition often caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The study investigates the efficacy of a topical cream called ACTX, which contains piroxicam and sun filters. The researchers used a two-center, assessor-blinded, prospective trial to evaluate the impact of ACTX on AK lesions. The trial's primary goal was to determine the effectiveness of ACTX in reducing the number of AK lesions and improving the appearance of the affected skin.
Promising Results for Actinic Keratosis
The results of the study were quite encouraging. After six months of treatment with ACTX, there was a significant decrease in the number of AK lesions observed in 90% of the participants. The average number of lesions dropped by 42%, and more than half of the subjects experienced a reduction in lesions exceeding 50%. Furthermore, ACTX was associated with a notable decrease in the severity of AK lesions, as assessed by reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and dermoscopy.
Protecting Your Skin from the Sun
These findings suggest that ACTX may be a valuable treatment option for individuals with AK. While the study highlights the potential of ACTX, it's important to remember that sun protection is crucial in preventing the development of AK in the first place. Wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, seeking shade during peak sun hours, and covering exposed skin with clothing are essential steps in safeguarding your skin from the damaging effects of UV radiation.
Dr.Camel's Conclusion
ACTX holds potential as a topical treatment for AK. It's important to consult with a dermatologist to discuss the potential benefits and risks of ACTX. Remember, preventing AK through sun protection is paramount. Think of your skin as a precious desert oasis—it needs care and attention to thrive!
