Lavender and Dodder: A Natural Approach to Treating Major Depressive Disorder

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a prevalent and debilitating mental health condition, and finding effective treatment options is a priority. This study investigates the efficacy of a traditional Persian herbal formula, lavender-dodder syrup, in treating MDD with anxious distress.

The study compared the effects of lavender-dodder syrup to citalopram, a standard antidepressant, in a group of patients with MDD and anxious distress. The results showed that both lavender-dodder syrup and citalopram significantly reduced depression scores, with no significant difference between the two groups. However, lavender-dodder syrup demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in anxiety scores at the end of the study. These findings suggest that lavender-dodder syrup might be a promising alternative or complementary treatment for MDD with anxious distress.
