Overview

This systematic review evaluated the efficacy and safety of allylamine drugs, like terbinafine, for cutaneous and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis. Despite the safety of these drugs, there is no evidence of efficacy for monotherapy against these conditions. A well-designed randomized controlled trial comparing terbinafine to meglumine antimoniate showed a lower cure rate for terbinafine. Further trials are needed to explore the potential synergistic effects of allylamines combined with triazole drugs.
