Oral minoxidil, while approved for high blood pressure, is also used off-label for alopecia. This retrospective study examined the side effects of high-dose oral minoxidil intake in children who were accidentally exposed to contaminated omeprazole. The results showed that hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth) was the most common side effect, appearing in 65% of the 20 patients. Treatment time was associated with an increased likelihood of hypertrichosis. Systemic side effects occurred in 15% of patients, but none were severe.
