Iranian healthcare professionals' knowledge, attitudes, and use of complementary and alternative medicine: a cross sectional study.

Overview

This cross-sectional study investigated the knowledge, attitude, and practice of Iranian healthcare professionals (HPs) regarding Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). 85.3% of the 210 HPs surveyed had a positive attitude towards CAM, but their knowledge was limited. The most commonly used CAM modalities were herbal medicine, exercise therapy, and hydrotherapy, while magnetic therapy and hypnosis were the least common. The reasons for using CAM included fewer side effects than medical treatments, lower cost, and convenience. Education level was significantly related to the use of CAM, and those who used CAM recommended it to their clients more frequently.
