Overview

This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of opicapone, a COMT inhibitor, as an adjuvant to levodopa in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Opicapone (50 mg) significantly reduced off-time by 49.91 min compared to placebo, increasing on-time without troublesome dyskinesia by 44.62 min. However, opicapone was associated with a 3.43 times greater risk of dyskinesia. These findings suggest that opicapone can improve levodopa therapy by reducing off-time and prolonging on-time without PD, but the increased risk of dyskinesia should be considered.
