Overview

This study investigated the explanatory model of hearing loss in the Bering Strait region of Alaska. Findings suggest that noise-induced hearing loss, infection-related hearing loss, and various causes of ear infections were common. The impact of hearing loss on subsistence activities, social, academic, and economic consequences were described. Participants highlighted burdensome treatment pathways with repetitive processes and travel and time-intensive aspects.
