Overview

Adult insulin-treated diabetics responded similarly to healthy controls after receiving 14-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine. Antibody response was not affected by age, sex, duration of diabetes, or other factors. Side effects were minimal. Pneumococcal immunization is safe and may reduce pneumonia risk in diabetics.
