Infertility Treatment for Clomiphene-Resistant PCOS: Cost-Effectiveness Evaluation
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder that can affect fertility. This study compared the cost-effectiveness of ovulation induction cycles and in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles in infertile women with clomiphene-resistant PCOS. The study involved 28 women who were randomly assigned to either ovulation induction or IVF treatment. The results showed that IVF cycles were associated with higher pregnancy rates per completed cycle than ovulation induction cycles. While drug costs were similar between the two groups, the total treatment costs were higher for IVF due to the additional costs of egg retrieval and embryo transfer. However, the cost per pregnancy was significantly lower for IVF than for ovulation induction. The study concluded that for obese women with clomiphene-resistant PCOS, IVF appears to be a cost-effective treatment option.
IVF Emerges as a Cost-Effective Option
This study suggests that IVF is a cost-effective treatment option for obese women with clomiphene-resistant PCOS. The study found that IVF resulted in higher pregnancy rates and lower costs per pregnancy compared to ovulation induction. This research provides valuable insights into the cost-effectiveness of different fertility treatment options for women with PCOS.
Finding the Right Oasis in the Desert of Infertility
This study provides valuable information for women with clomiphene-resistant PCOS who are considering fertility treatment options. The study suggests that IVF may be a cost-effective option for obese women with this condition. It's like finding the right oasis in the vast desert of infertility.
