Overview

This review evaluated the use of electrodiagnostic tests for diagnosing and treating carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). While electrodiagnosis was found to be unhelpful for diagnosis in patients with clear CTS symptoms, it may be useful when the diagnosis is uncertain. Regarding treatment, studies did not show any difference in surgical outcomes between patients with positive and negative electrodiagnostic test results. Therefore, electrodiagnosis is not recommended as a predictor of surgical success in patients with clear CTS symptoms.
