Five different chemotherapy regimens for advanced diffuse large cell lymphoma (DLCL) resulted in similar overall survival rates, with 35-45% of patients surviving. Factors associated with shorter survival included extensive disease, high LDH levels, and older age. In younger patients with advanced disease and high LDH levels, a combination of high-dose chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and bone marrow transplant showed more promising results. In a separate study, radiation therapy followed by chemotherapy was more effective than radiation alone for early-stage diffuse lymphoma.
