While medications called cholinesterase inhibitors are the most effective treatment for mild to moderate AD, there is limited guidance on treatment options as the disease progresses to severe stages. This study aims to determine the best approach for people with AD who are worsening despite treatment with donepezil, a cholinesterase inhibitor, including whether to continue donepezil, add another medication (memantine), or switch to memantine.
