Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and acetaminophen were effective for short-term pain relief in patients with tension-type headache compared to placebo. Ibuprofen was associated with fewer side effects compared to other NSAIDs. Insufficient evidence exists to support or refute the effectiveness of preventive medication, physiotherapy, biofeedback, or cognitive behavioral therapy for tension-type headache.
