Overview

This study compared acupuncture and steroid treatments for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) over a year. 77 patients with mild-to-moderate CTS were randomly assigned to either acupuncture or steroid treatment. At 7 and 13 months, the acupuncture group showed significantly more improvement in symptoms and nerve function compared to the steroid group. For example, at month 13, 81.6% of the acupuncture group experienced good improvement, compared to 48.7% in the steroid group. The study also found a strong correlation between symptom improvement and improved nerve function in the acupuncture group.
