Overview

Increasing the dose of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) at the onset of asthma exacerbations did not significantly reduce the need for rescue oral corticosteroids. In a review of 5 randomized controlled trials involving 1250 patients, there was no significant difference in the need for rescue oral corticosteroids between patients who increased their ICS dose and those who continued their usual maintenance dose.
