Overview

This randomized study assigned 295 patients with moderate or severe Alzheimer’s disease to one of four treatment groups: continue donepezil, discontinue donepezil, discontinue donepezil and start memantine, or continue donepezil and start memantine. Continued donepezil treatment was associated with significant cognitive and functional benefits over 12 months, exceeding the minimum clinically important difference.
