This study, my fellow researchers, explores the exposure dynamics of Lyme disease spirochetes in Black-legged kittiwakes, investigating the impact of exposure on host survival and the temporal dynamics of individual immune status. Using a multi-year dataset and a multi-event modeling approach, the researchers found no detectable impact of Lyme disease on adult survival in kittiwakes. However, they observed a persistent immune response, suggesting that once an individual becomes seropositive, they remain so for multiple years.
