Original Abstract of the Article :
Sequential liver biopsies were taken from 66 patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection being followed in randomised controlled trials of therapy with alpha interferons or adenine arabinoside 5'-monophosphate. In the group of 23 patients responding to treatment with the permanent loss o...See full text at original site

Antiviral Treatment for Chronic Hepatitis B
Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection presents a formidable challenge for researchers, as the virus can persist in the liver for years, leading to inflammation and even cirrhosis. This study focuses on the impact of antiviral treatment on liver health. It examines liver biopsies taken from patients with chronic HBV infection who received antiviral therapy with alpha interferons or adenine arabinoside 5'-monophosphate. The research found that those patients who responded to treatment by eliminating HBe antigen and HBV-DNA from their blood showed a significant reduction in liver inflammation. In contrast, inflammation continued in those who did not respond to therapy, and even progressed to cirrhosis in some cases. The research further confirms that successful treatment of chronic HBV infection is associated with the loss of both serum and liver markers of HBV replication, highlighting the potential of antiviral therapy to prevent the progression to cirrhosis.
Fighting the Virus, Healing the Liver
The findings of this study, like a cool oasis in a scorching desert, provide hope for patients with chronic HBV infection. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of antiviral therapy in reducing liver inflammation and preventing the progression of the disease.
Protecting Liver Health
This research emphasizes the importance of early and effective antiviral treatment for chronic HBV infection to prevent liver damage.
Dr.Camel's Conclusion
The results of this study have significant implications for the treatment of chronic HBV infection.
