Overview

A randomized controlled trial of 154 couples with unexplained infertility found that immediate IVF resulted in higher pregnancy rates and fewer treatment cycles than two cycles of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation/IUI followed by IVF. The cumulative clinical pregnancy rates per couple after two cycles of treatment were 21.6% for CC/IUI, 17.3% for FSH/IUI, and 49.0% for immediate IVF. After all treatments, 71.4% of couples had conceived a clinically recognized pregnancy, and 46.1% had delivered at least one live-born baby. 84.2% of all live-born infants resulting from treatment were achieved via IVF.
