Unmasking the Antimicrobial Resistance of Escherichia coli
Escherichia coli, like a ubiquitous desert plant, is a common bacterium found in the intestines of both humans and animals. However, this seemingly harmless microbe can become a formidable foe when it develops resistance to antibiotics, making infections more difficult to treat. In this study, researchers investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of E. coli isolates from dogs and cats in the United States.
A Shifting Landscape of Resistance
The study revealed a concerning trend: high resistance rates to several antibiotics, including doxycycline, cephalexin, ampicillin, and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid.
