Overview

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness. Lowering pressure inside the eye is the main way to prevent vision loss. While medications and laser surgery are commonly used, some patients need incisional surgery (trabeculectomy). New devices are being used with trabeculectomy to improve fluid drainage and lower eye pressure. The effectiveness and safety of these devices are still being studied.
